Express Entry
Your Fast Track to
Canadian Permanent Residency
Canada's Express Entry system is one of the most efficient immigration pathways for skilled workers seeking permanent residence. Designed to attract talent from around the world, this point-based system ensures Canada continues to grow with skilled professionals who can contribute to the economy.
What is Express Entry?
Express Entry is an online system used by the Government of Canada to manage applications for three key federal immigration programs:
It also supports many Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP) that nominate candidates directly through Express Entry.
Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
The Federal Skilled Worker Program is designed for professionals with foreign work experience who want to immigrate to Canada permanently. Applicants are assessed using a points-based system that considers education, work experience, language skills, and other factors.
Key Eligibility Requirements:
- At least one year of continuous full-time (or equivalent part-time) skilled work experience abroad.
- Minimum language score of CLB 7 in English or French.
- Completed post-secondary education (credential assessment required if obtained outside Canada).
- Sufficient settlement funds to support yourself and your family.
- Scoring at least 67 points out of 100 on the FSW eligibility grid.
Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
The Federal Skilled Trades Program is for skilled workers in trade occupations who want to become permanent residents. It focuses on practical experience and certification in eligible trades rather than formal education.
Key Eligibility Requirements:
- At least two years of full-time work experience in a skilled trade within the last five years.
- A valid job offer from a Canadian employer or a certificate of qualification from a Canadian authority.
- Minimum language level of CLB 5 for speaking and listening, and CLB 4 for reading and writing.
- Meet job requirements for your skilled trade as set by Canada’s National Occupational Classification (NOC).
Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
The Canadian Experience Class is ideal for individuals who have already gained skilled work experience in Canada and wish to transition to permanent residence. It’s one of the fastest pathways to PR under Express Entry.
Key Eligibility Requirements:
- At least one year of full-time (or equivalent part-time) skilled work experience in Canada within the last three years.
- Minimum language level of CLB 7 for NOC 0 or A jobs, or CLB 5 for NOC B jobs.
- Work experience must be legally obtained while holding valid temporary resident status.
- No requirement to show proof of settlement funds (if currently working in Canada).
Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) allows Canada’s provinces and territories to nominate individuals who have the skills, education, and work experience needed to contribute to their local economy. Each province has its own PNP streams, often aligned with Express Entry, targeting specific occupations or applicants with prior ties to the province.
Being nominated through a PNP can significantly increase your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, improving your chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence.
Key Eligibility Factors:
- Must possess skills or work experience in occupations in demand within the province.
- Intention to live and work in the nominating province.
- Meet minimum education and work experience requirements as defined by the province.
- Minimum language proficiency in English or French (varies by province and stream).
- Some streams require a valid job offer or previous study/work experience in the province.
- Can apply through Express Entry-linked PNP streams or base (non-Express Entry) streams.
Popular PNP Pathways:
- Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP)
- British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP)
- Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP)
- Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP)
- Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP)
- Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP)
